Ahhhh – Verde Valley

Things just weren’t going smoothly as we headed out of Phoenix. Maybe it was a bit of karma thrown my way for not embracing this place.

Right off the bat, I couldn’t find one of the hitch pins that helps us tow the car. I have no clue what happened to it. Every time I unhitch the car, I put everything away in the same box.

I had to improvise with a pin that fit but didn’t have a way to lock it in. It was a ‘keep your fingers crossed’ type of fix. I will be ordering a replacement along with a spare or two!

We started heading out and about half an hour later the Patriot Braking System showed an error. Anyone else out there have one that times out more often than not? I’ve contacted the company because this is getting to be annoying.

When this happens, I have to find an exit. Then pull in somewhere where I can turn the RV around without unhitching the car. Then I have to turn the system off in the toad.  Once I reset it, all is well. Big pain in the butt.

The final glitch, we pulled into Cottonwood and I attempted to fuel the car up. Darn, not close enough to the pump. I get back in Perl and lined the car up better.

I go back out to pump. The pump isn’t working. I see an attendant and ask, “What’s wrong with the pumps?”. She replies, “All our pumps are down, none of them are working right now”. You’ve got to be kidding me, ugh!

But you know what, all those trials and errors weren’t for not. When we finally rolled into Thousand Trails Verde Valley RV & Campground, things started looking up.

This campground is really nice. I love it. We have a nice level site with full hookups. There are trails to hike and bike paths to check out. It’s warm enough during the day to swim in the heated pool.

Another bonus, the on-site restaurant, though limited service right now, offers breakfast on Saturday/Sunday. And the grand finale, for a reasonable price, Thanksgiving dinner, woot woot! I immediately signed us up. Now I can do the ‘I don’t have to cook on Thanksgiving dance’, ha ha!

Did I tell you guys that I’ve been wanting a bike for a long time? I had one before the kids came along, uh, 13 LONG years ago. It flew off the back of our car, bike rack and all. It was totally mangled. I’ve been wanting another ever since.

So lo and behold, I walked into a Camping World in Albuquerque and there was a fold up bike on clearance for $89! It was originally over $200. I couldn’t resist. Since it was a floor model, my brother managed to get another 15% off. Then, I had two $25 coupons. My total cost? A sweet $25!! I’m a happy, happy camper!

I finally got a chance to use it since we’ve been here. We’re biking to the pool and around the campground. It feels so good to have wheels under my butt again ;-)! Now I need to find a cost-effective way to bring pooch along with us.

We haven’t left camp since we rolled in a few days ago. That’s always a good sign that it’s a good camp. Tomorrow I think we’ll have to scoot on out of here. We’re out of doggie poo bags and a few other essentials. Now if I could just pry the kids away from the pool!
