Foil Dinners and Halloween
We’ve been hanging out at camp living life as usual. Here’s a glimpse of what our days in Branson have looked like so far.
Thursday, October 15th
Laundry day, loads and loads of fun, get it, loads of laundry, okay, bad joke. After putting everything away and changing the sheets, we headed to dinner. We wanted to check out a restaurant we saw when we were in town.
We went to India Clay Oven, an Indian restaurant in Branson that received really good reviews. Being fans of Indian food, we had to give it a go. It was pretty pricey but man was the food so, so good! If you’re ever in Branson and enjoy Indian food, don’t pass this gem up.
On our way back home, it started to rain. It rained on and off all night. It really cooled things off and Friday arrived with more fall like temperatures. I felt bad for the tent campers. I remember those rainy tent days all too well.

Today was a good day at camp. The kids hung around painting some plastic ‘stained glass’ figurines to hang in their windows. I walked Loki down by the lake. He hasn’t gone in for a swim since the other day but he loves to go up to his belly.
We saw a motorhome arrive on Thursday. I noticed there were two girls about the age of mine. I was hoping the kids would have someone to play with over the weekend. But alas, it was a one night stand! They must have left out early in the morning.
After I walked Loki, I started a campfire. We don’t do this very often because, well, we’re living life as usual. It’s not a weekend camping trip where you have to get it all in until your next campout. We can start a campfire any old-time. Today I was in the campfire mood. I was also on a mission, dinner.
Since it rained last night, I wasn’t sure if the fire was going to take. I didn’t have any tinder so it was hit or miss. Once I realized success was mine, I called the girls out. It was time to prep for foil dinners, fun, fun!!
I sent them to the water spigot to wash the potatoes off. The youngest peeled and cut them into cubes. While she was prepping the potatoes, the oldest was cutting the chicken up. I went between helping them and making sure the fire didn’t die out.
One everything was set up, I helped the girls assemble everything in four tidy, shiny foil packets. It was fun, having everyone working together to get things done.
After we prepped the dinner packets, we worked on dessert. We sliced bananas down the middle (left the skins on) and put pieces of chocolate bars inside. Then we wrap these in foil as well. The girls were intrigued and curious as to how everything was going to turn out.
I was reliving memories of my decade as a Girl Scout Leader. Foil dinners over the fire, pizza being baked in box ovens and breakfast in a bag. Ah, they were good times, I enjoyed leading my nieces troops.
In twenty minutes, foil dinners were done. We opened them up and the kids were pretty surprised. They were also pretty proud looking at what they’d accomplished with a minimal amount of help. All that combined made it taste that much better ;-). The bananas were pretty good too.
My favorite part of foil dinners, clean up! You just throw away the foil. It helps to save on water, especially when you don’t have water or sewer hook-ups. We have a super long water hose and we’re fairly close to a water spigot so it hasn’t been too inconvenient. And it’s saving me fifty bucks with electric only. I’ll take it!
My youngest finally lost a loose tooth that’s been wiggling around for a while. So the tooth fairy will be visiting the RV. I was instructed to leave it in a specific location so the dog didn’t bark at her when she came, too funny.
I’m really getting the itch to do some Halloween related things. Somehow we’re going to get some pumpkins up in here. They keep asking about carving. Paper Mache was also mentioned. Hey, why not?!
We’ll be in Amarillo, Texas on Halloween. I googled ‘the best neighborhoods to trick-or-treat in Amarillo’ and got an interesting list. These are neighborhoods they claim are notorious for giving out full-size candy bars. I love it. There is also mall trick-or-treating. The kids voted for the latter.
What is everyone out there doing for Halloween? I’d love to hear what all my blog friends have planned. Post a comment and share, I’m sure it’s spoooooktacular!
