From Maine to ?????
In my last post I promised to share our travel plans for the remainder of 2015. Here is what it looks like in two parts.
Part I
Have I shared with you before that I love Good Sam’s Trip Planner Guide? In my opinion, I believe this feature is worth the membership alone. Great tool for planning trips. No, I’m not getting a commission, I just honestly love it. But you’re not here for that, are you? So here it goes, stops 1 through 4 detailed below for your viewing pleasure.
Stop 1: While technically not a stop, I have to list it. Why? Because it’s on the map and it will drive me crazy if I don’t. And it’s where we’ll depart from, good ole’ Virginia.
Stop 2: The first ‘real’ stop is Wells, Maine. We’ll be hanging out here at the Thousand Trails Moody Beach RV Campground for a week. We hope to partake in a lot of lobster eating while listening to the crashing of waves. We’re also hoping for a thinned out crowd as most of the kiddies will be back at school.
Stop 3: Niagara Falls. This stop (as well as Maine) was on our summer list. Better late than never. We have a lot of things we hope to do here, aside from the obvious. If interested, here’s my previous post, aka wish list. We’ll spend a week here as well.
Stop 4: Youngstown, Ohio. Here comes the bride……..you guessed it, a wedding! We’ll hang out here for a couple of days with family as my nephew gets married.
At the end of September, I will see my daughter and hubby off as they head back to Virginia. Then we will begin Part II of our journey.
Part II
Wow, look at that beautiful long snaking line with so many points along the way! I get excited just looking at it. And the best part? It’s headed straight for Vegas baby!! Alright, alright, let me gather myself together.
Stop 1: Again, really a departure from Ohio, so I left it off the map.
Stop 2: Somewhere outside of Chicago. The goal is to explore one of the Great Lakes while still being able to drive into Chicago. We’re planning on staying at the Thousand Trails Pine Country RV & Camping Resort.
Stop 3: St. Louis, Missouri. I think the kids could learn about history here by taking the Anheuser-Busch Brewery Tour, whatcha think? Just making sure you’re still awake! Alright, alright maybe not. Well, we have the arch and the St. Louis Toy Museum for starters.
Stop 4: Tulsa, Oklahoma. At first glance on the trip planner, I see a newspaper museum, planetarium and Discoveryland, what’s not to like?
Stop 5: Amarillo, Texas. Armadillo’s, scorpions and rattlesnakes, oh my! Let’s hope not. Try Cadillac Ranch, Kwahadi Kiva Indian Museum, an art museum and Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
Stop 6: Albuquerque, New Mexico. Oh my beloved Albuquerque, we’ll be visiting you a tad bit too late. I had reservations for the balloon festival this year but when my plans turned to mush, I cancelled them. One day, one day. I guess we’ll be checking out Pueblo water tanks, the Petroglyph National Monument, Meteorite Museum and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.
Stop 7: Petrified Forests. That’s all I got folks. Not sure where we’re staying but that’s what I want to see.
Stop 8: Flagstaff, Arizona. The Grand Canyon! This will be a second round for me but a first for the rest of the crew.
Stop 9: Las Vegas, Nevada. Need I say more? This is my third round.
Shortly after we arrive in Vegas, my husband and daughter will fly in to join us with grandparents in tow. I have reservations at a resort as Perl would never fit us all. We’ll spend Christmas together all the way through our twins birthday the first part of January. We’ll switch out the twins for the next part of the trip. One twin returning home with dad and grandparents, the other embarking on the next leg of our journey with us. Departure will be somewhere around January 12th.
Our objective is to stay at each location two weeks, give or take a little. If we find we’re done exploring before our time is up, we will probably move on. I just don’t want to go too fast and furious or we will all burn out quickly. I also tried to make our travel days as short as possible, sticking as close as I can to my five-hour rule.
So now that we’ve found ourselves on the other side of the country, where will we go next? Ah, but you know I cannot reveal all of my secrets at once. I must leave a little teaser behind. So you’ll come back and visit me again soon :-). It gets lonely over here in blog land when I don’t have visitors!
