Home or Bust

We arrived at Outdoor World Williamsburg on Thursday evening. We ate some leftovers and settled in for the evening. We woke up to rain on Friday and started our day with a breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. A little heartier than normal but it was more like brunch. And of course there was coffee to wash it all down. I like my little stove top percolator. I have an electric kettle that I use to heat the water up. I then pour it in the percolator and as soon as it starts boiling, it takes only about 3 minutes. I like it because in cause I don’t have access to electric, I can still heat it over the gas stove. The stove top toaster, it’s okay and very compact but it takes too long to toast the bread. It got good reviews on Amazon so maybe I’m doing something wrong?

The afternoon consisted of mounds of laundry. Nadia wanted to earn some money so she was my helper for laundry duty. Since my brother is disabled, we were able to secure a handicapped camping spot. This meant that we were right next to the activity center and laundry room. So we walked over with our bins of laundry and got to work. We wrapped it all up about 5ish. Then my thoughts turned to dinner plans. We ended up having pizza delivered from DaddyO’s Pizza & Panini. It was really good, especially the garlic knots. If you’re ever in the area, give them a try.

Not soon after we finished dinner, we had a special guest arrive around 7. It was daddy! The girls were really excited. We snuck him in while the girls were in the bedroom watching t.v. When we called them out of the room, there he was sitting at the dinette. Nadia didn’t know whether to hug him or just stare. After everyone calmed down and chatted for a few hours, it was time for bed.

Saturday morning began with swimming at the indoor pool. The park is pretty decent. There’s an indoor pool and two outdoor pools. The outdoor pools aren’t open yet but the kids had a ton of fun in the indoor pool. What did I do? I slept in of course, it was awesome! Lunch was spent at an Indian restaurant called Nawab. It was a fairly decent place but still no match to our twelve year long favorite, Jaipur Royal Indian Cuisine in Fairfax, VA. We’ve been going there since the twins were babies and it’s still our favorite. But I would return to Nawab the next time I’m in Williamsburg.

Then we headed on over to Rita’s for some dessert. Then back to the RV park for a long walk around to check things out. I always like to walk around and look at all the other RV’s and how people set-up their campsites. It’s also nice to meet other campers out enjoying nature. It was a nice spring-like day on Saturday. We had a cookout on the grill and then enjoyed a campfire with s’mores of course. The wood was being finicky though and wouldn’t stay lit. I don’t think it was seasoned or perhaps it was wet from the day prior.

A weekend of ice cream treats, yum!

A weekend of ice cream treats, yum!

Sunday started with sunshine and beautiful weather once again. And the kids made another trip over to the pool. Around noon, we headed over to Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant and enjoyed all the crab legs and more that we could eat. When we headed back we went over to play two rounds of miniature golf and Nadia played on the playground for a bit. The miniature golf was very nice and well maintained. There was a  little waterfall in the middle that was pretty soothing.

We weren’t all that hungry when dinner rolled around so what is one to do? Why go out for more ice cream of course! So we headed over to Handle’s for a little treat. Then it was back home to get ready to roll on out of here tomorrow morning. I always like to dump the tanks and put all the hoses away the night before. Gives me less to do in the morning because goodness knows, I’m NOT a morning person. That way, when morning hits, all I have to do is unplug the water and electric, batten down the hatches, pull in the slides, lift up the jacks and off we go.

Tomorrows journey won’t be long, about two hours tops. I think we’ll hit Costco on the way home so we can stock the pantry. Then I have to unload Perl and get her ready for a few weeks in storage. But don’t despair. I will still be blogging and keeping you updated on our next journey out. Come along with me and get a first glance into what we have in store for the summer. I’ll be sharing our stops and activities we’d like to do along the way. Our next trip will be from mid-June until the first part of September.  I’ll also be sharing RV tips and other news. So stay tuned!

{HUGS} from the crew!

Current Location = Outdoor World Williamsburg, 4301 Rochambeau Dr, Williamsburg, VA 23188.

Cost = $0/ for 4 nights with my Thousand Trails Membership. This includes full hook-ups (50amp).

My Observations = This is a nice campground but on the smaller side. It is another ‘find your own’ RV park. That seems to be the norm with these Thousand Trails (TT) campgrounds. I’m glad that we were able to reserve a handicap site in advance so I didn’t have to drive around in search of a spot. That is the number one thing that is going to turn me off from TT as I really don’t like doing that. Another theme that seems to be running through the TT campsites is they’re always in some stage of repair. This campsite is fairly decent but the activity center game room smells like mildew and it could use an overhaul. However, the putt putt golf is very well maintained and the playground very, very nice. I’d come back here again if I didn’t have to worry about finding a site.

Amenities:

  • outdoor pool w/kiddie pool
  • indoor pool with sauna/whirlpool (nice)
  • game room
  • laundry facility
  • putt putt golf
  • playgrounds (one for little kids, one for big kids)
  • fire rings
  • fee for internet, no cable available
