I’m Back and a Big Reveal
Phew, it’s been a rough week! Did you think I left you never to be heard from again? No way, I could never do that to you. I tell you what, our first trip out with Perl sure did kick my butt! I’ve been catching up on lost sleep all week and just trying to get my mojo back. And guess what folks, I finally did and I’M BACK, woohoo!
We pulled in on Monday afternoon and unpacked the refrigerator first. Then it was on to all the clothes, toys, etc that needed to be hauled out of there. It’s a real pain because we are situated on a hill and there’s nowhere to park Perl. She has to hang out on the street in front of the house blocking the mailbox (and making the mail carrier a tad bit grumpy). On Tuesday, I spent the day scrubbing down the fridge, cleaning the bathrooms, stripping sheets off the beds and getting her ready to be stored for a wee bit. On Tuesday night it was off to the RV doctor, Safford RV.
Remember that slide that wouldn’t retract in Tampa? Well it hasn’t been operating very smoothly ever since. Another issue is the hydraulic jacks. They are either giving me false “down” errors or they aren’t fully retracting, even though they’re telling me they are. I know, doesn’t make sense but this is the scenario. I pull the parking brake, they supposedly retract, the “jacks down” light goes off and the panel reads “success”. Ok, great! We head down the road and within a mile I hear, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, you get the idea. Then the “jacks down” light comes on! However, they seem to be retracted. I auto-level once more, retract again and that seems to resolve the issue.
So yeah, Perls been having a few problems lately. And I definitely want to work out all the kinks I can before I head out next month. So on top of that, the house batteries will be serviced and she’ll be gone over with a fine tooth-comb. I gotta keep my girl in tip top shape.
One of the main reasons why I chose to be back home right now is because of all the celebrations we have at this time of year. And with celebrations come lots of family, friends and partying. All of which are some of my favorite things! So here’s the line-up folks.
- Last Thursday- nephews birthday
- Today-mothers day
- May 21-yours truly’s bday
- May 29-my youngest turns 8
- June 9-our 13th wedding anniversary
- June 21-father’s day
- June 28-my cutie patootie niece turns 2
- June 30-hubby’s bday
Yep, May and June are crazy around these parts! We have a lot of partying to do. And I also have a ton of planning, ordering (great to be stationary so I can receive packages) and preparation that needs to happen before Perl pulls out of her safe harbor and feels the wind against her, ummm, metal again?!? And there has been some planning going on behind the scenes folks. A lot more to go but the first leg of the journey has been booked.
The first big reveal in our summer line-up is our first stop northward, which will be, drum roll please, Niagra Falls! I have actually frequented these parts before, on a crazy whim driving from Ohio to upstate NY. I had some of my nieces and nephews with me and we were meeting the rest of the family in Lake George, NY. It went like this;
Me: “Hey, did you guys see those signs for Niagra Falls?”
My nieces and nephews, “Yea Aunt Debb, we did”.
Me: “I’ve always wanted to go to Niagra Falls, we should go!”.
And so we did and it was the best trip ever, as all spontaneous trips tend to be! We didn’t arrive into our campsite near Lake George until very late that night but it was well worth it.
Now, let me tell you. Trying to find a reasonably priced campsite near Niagra Falls is not for the faint of heart. Holy cow, my first choice rang in at a whopping $600 for 7 days! Yea, nope, that’s not going to work. That exceeds my entire months campsite budget. Alright, so I quickly revised my plans and expectations. I found out there’s a nice state park called Four Mile Creek that’s a whopping $28/night. Now that I can swing. No, there’s no pool, Wi-Fi or water/sewer hook ups but we’ll be just fine. There are shower houses, dump stations and locations in the park where I can fill my water tank if need be. And we trade the Wi-Fi for hiking trails. The kids aren’t too keen but I don’t recall anyone wanting to flip the bill, sooooooo, Four Mile Creek, here we come!
The next stop on the journey is a place very near and dear to my heart. My place of birth and years of fond memories hanging out with family and friends. That would be the area around Lake George, NY. Now get this folks, I’ve been to my husbands birth place, halfway around the world to China, not once or twice but four, yes, four times. He’s never seen where I call home, not once! It’s long overdue. I haven’t been back for over 10 years myself. So there you have it, a little over two weeks and we’re covering two very cool locations. I’ll bring you up to date on what we hope to see and do while there in a later post. But for now, go get your mom a bouquet of flowers! It’s Mother’s Day already!
{HUGS} from the crew!
