Lake Medina & Riverwalk

I had a few things in mind when I booked our stay at Medina Lake RV Campground Thousand Trails. One of the main objectives was to have a place to park it over the Easter holiday. And Thousand Trails (TT’s) tend to have activities going on during the holidays.

You may recall we were in a TT in Cottonwood, AZ over the Thanksgiving stretch. And they did indeed have a Thanksgiving dinner. They also had an angel tree so we were able to purchase some presents for needy children and give back during the holidays.

Medina Lake TT had an Easter dinner planned along with activities for the kids. The Easter bunny arrived, there were egg hunts (for kids and adults alike), an Easter carnival (kids thought it was very lame), and more. All in all a decent place to spend a week.

Happy Easter from Texas!

The other reasons we decided to stay at Medina Lake were simple. It was along our route  heading east and it didn’t cost me anything. And a good thing we did stay here. A moment of serendipity occurred when I was able to meet one of my blog followers, Jeni! Thanks for coming up and introducing yourself. Hopefully our paths will cross again in the near future.

I liked the spot we scouted out. This campground itself is HUGE. The only drawback to our site was we weren’t near the lake or anyone else for that matter. Just a few people on either side of us. And our water pressure was extremely low. The campground, in my opinion, is like a lot of TT’s, it has so much potential but it’s not being tapped into.

One cool feature of this TT is the old house that was moved from the lake. I assume this was during a dry spell as the lake tends to come and go. It’s a gorgeous old house that’s in need of repair. I forgot to get pictures (boo). I hope TT’s brings it back to its former glory before it’s beyond repair.

So what else did we manage to find to do while near San Antonio? Why the San Antonio River Walk of course. It was about an hour from our campsite. I had no idea what to expect. I thought it was a simple walking area with stores and shops situated around the river.

When we parked the car and followed the signs, I couldn’t figure out which way to go. Signs for the River Walk were pointing right and left. We finally saw a set of stairs and could hear some noise so we headed down. It was like a little secret society down there.

We had fun walking around and checking out this little gem. We took a boat tour and ate at one of the restaurants. We were fairly lucky as it wasn’t crowded and lines weren’t too long. We’d been warned that it can get mighty crowded on the little strip of walkway. We didn’t have a lot of time to do too much exploring.

As always, I wish we could have gone back again but being an hour away and having limited time, we couldn’t. And our next stop was going to have an extra special celebrity appearance so we couldn’t delay any longer! If the Easter bunny already came then who could that be? Why daddy of course.

So it was on to Galveston under gray skies and heading for coastal waters. Hang on tight for my next blog post and I’ll share our shenanigans.

If you’re ordering anything from Amazon in the near future. I’d really appreciate it if you’d click on my Amazon Link and help this blogger out. Thank you! I really do appreciate it.
