Myrtle Beach

Things went smoothly as we headed out of our campground at Hilton Head Island (HHI). When we arrived into HHI, we had someone come over and help us back in. And when we left, we had a neighbor come over to offer assistance as well. While we didn’t need help hooking up the tow vehicle, there certainly was a friendly bunch of people here!

We pulled into Myrtle Beach Travel Park  under sunny skies. We were nearing the end of all our itching from the bites we encountered in Florida. I’m pretty certain we were gifted a few bites in HHI as well.

The following day, we headed out to stock up on groceries and do a little bit of shopping. We also went to Broadway at the Beach. The kids fed the ducks, crushed some pennies in the penny crusher and we walked around enjoying the weather. You know, the cheap and simple pleasures in life.

Let me just start off by saying I really, really, really loved this RV park. It was the best coastal experiences of the four we stayed at. The prices were fairly reasonable, until Memorial Day weekend of course. And the location could not be beat, oceanfront!

The ocean at the end of our row

At one end of our RV row was a view of the ocean and on the other end a pretty darn awesome pool! What’s not to love. The ocean water was warm and we couldn’t resist spending time perched on the beach listening to the crashing waves.

The pool was very nice with a splash pad area for kids and a lazy river. There was an arcade, a little market and a laundry area rivaling any campground laundry facility I’ve seen. Except maybe the one we stayed at in Orange, CA.

We had fun exploring the area and getting our fill of good restaurants. On the top of our list was Captain Gearge’s Seafood Buffet. While we had plans to visit the one in Williamsburg as well, I had never been to this location. It was nice and there were no massive lines as we always seem to find in Williamsburg.

We also hit up Yamato, a Japanese Steakhouse. This was my older daughters pick and it was a good choice. She loves sushi and this had a fair selection. But the highlight of the trip was definitely the ‘show’ they put on for us. The chef made a heart out of rice and used sesame seeds to spell out I love you. He was very fun and full of humor.

Between the rain, we spent our days either at the beach or the pool. Some days, we hit up both. Being oceanfront was a very nice, relaxing experience. I would love to come back here again in off-season. The rates were much more reasonable and even in off-season, Myrtle Beach can be enjoyed. Especially in spring and fall.

I was very sad to say goodbye to days spent in my bathing suit and flip-flops. I’ve acquired quite the flip-flop tan over the last few months. I cannot recall the last time I put on socks for warmth. Maybe in Half Moon Bay?

We are now stationed in Williamsburg, a very short jaunt from home. The family is reunited once more and we’ll be spending Mother’s Day together. Today we’ll head over to Captain George’s for some more crab leg cracking fun.

The temperature difference from here versus South Carolina is about 20 or 30 degrees cooler, boo! I am now wearing socks for the first time in months and ready to head south again :-). Nah, it’s time to get Perl unloaded, serviced, and ready for a little bit of storage time.

I will still be posting out on the blog, filling you in on our future plans and offering up some pointers that I’ve learned along the way. Things have changed quite a bit from our original plans so some tough decisions need to be made. Stay tuned to see what awaits the crew.
