Surf, Sand, Sun and FLEAS!
We’ve been having a good time hanging out in Clermont. We managed to hit up two Disney parks so far. Epcot was fun and the crowds were manageable considering the majority of the country is on spring break. We went on Easter and Epcot placed Easter eggs throughout the park for the guests to find. Unfortunately they ran out of the maps that you could put a sticker on and turn in for a prize. The kids still had fun hunting for eggs.
Now I mentioned the crowds at Epcot were manageable but Magic Kingdom, wow, just wow. I have never been to WDW at this time of year. We always go in off season. This my friends is NUTS. Two hours in line for the good rides. And fast pass, that seems to be a thing of the past with Disney. You can now book your fast pass up to 30 days prior to your arrival. So, by the time I figured out the new routine, the good rides were all booked up.
I have four more days on our passes. Lets just say that I will be using those days up after the spring breakers clear on out of here. Or at least most of them. Our next camp is only 15 minutes away in Clermont. So we’re good to go, not too far from Disney. I also noticed they offer some archery and horseback riding at the Disney Wilderness Campground. I’m going to see if the kids are up for some of those activities. Right now, the main highlight at this park is the pool and free Wifi at the clubhouse. The kids also want to do some miniature golf.
The other highlight that has plagued us, or at least me for sure, is bug bites. I have been itching my ankles and shins like crazy. It won’t go away so I did a little research. I initially thought I’d been attacked by chiggers but it seems consistent with what I saw about SAND FLEAS!! In all my forty odd years at the beach I have never had an issue! So what’s this all about my friends? Read up on it here http://www.fleabites.net/sand-flea-bites-on-humans-pictures-treatment-and-prevention/.
I’m inserting a mild photo in here for the squeamish type at home. My feet, ankles and shins are much worse. Covered in bites. I don’t want to gross anyone out. So reading up on this sand flea fun, I found out that this phenomena is based upon weather conditions such as visiting the beach right after it rains or when it’s cooler out, such as the early morning or late evening hours. Also, beaches with seaweed tend to harbor more sand fleas as they also feed on the decaying vegetation.
Well guess what folks, I can now pinpoint where I was bitten by these monsters, the first beach we went to. There was seaweed on the shore and it was a cool day. I was laying on the picnic blanket close to the ground. Did I mention that these bites really, really itch? I’ve been lathering up with anti-itch cream and I’m hoping the worst is behind me. Supposedly the itching can last for a week or two, YIKES. Thank goodness they don’t hitchhike home with you like regular fleas and infest your living quarters. They bite and run! I guess there’s always a price to be paid for fun in the sun.
Today (well yesterday by the time this posts out) was my nephew Anthony’s birthday! Happy birthday Tony!! We stopped by the liquor store and are about to chase down a shot in his name. Great excuse guys, great excuse. I’ll be catching up with you sometime soon in our travels. CHEERS!
