We’re Going to….No Wait

I tell you what guys, we’ve changed our minds on the second leg of our trip, oh, just a few times. You might recall that originally, after Niagra Falls, we were going to Lake George, NY. Well, after hemming and hawing and realizing that I need to really be much further north to make it to my summer destination (hold patient please, plans will be revealed soon), we switched our plans.

We thought, let’s just drive up into Canada, hang out in Prince Edward County and then head over to Montreal. My husband will be joining us for 2 1/2 weeks and he was going to fly out of Montreal to head back home. The kids and I were going to move forward with the final summer stop. So I started doing some research and even began a blog post to let you know what we’d be up to. But, Prince Edward County is really wine country. Not that I have an issue with that, I love me some wine. However, would it really interest the kids?

So I was talking to my friend the other day over at Red-Eyed Studio (check out her quilts, they’re amazing!) and she said, “Why don’t you head to Maine?”. That thought had crossed my mind and I was planning on heading home that way anyhow. Hmmmm…….Maine. A  coastal retreat and I’ve never spent time in Maine. I’ve been to Rhode Island and Massachusetts but never Maine. I think I’d really like to get to know that place and most importantly, their LOBSTER! So, thanks my friend, the decision is made, we’re going to Maine.

Maine-Lobster-Fest-1I haven’t had a whole lot of time to do research on things to do. I know the campgrounds are going to run about the same price as the other two locations. I’m pretty disappointed that there aren’t very many cheap alternatives when it comes to this side of the US of A. Even the state and national campgrounds don’t offer much of a break. And if you’re not a Maine resident, you pay an extra $10/night, yikes! So if any of you folks out there have any suggestions, I’d love to hear about it in the comments. There is a Thousand Trails there but it looks like it’s booked for my time frame.

So do you believe that PERL is still at Safford RV, my local repair shop?! I dropped her off on our way back at the beginning of May. I gave specific instructions for them to call me so I could explain what issues I was having with the jacks. So about two weeks in, I received a voicemail. “Hi, this is Safford RV, you’re Winnebago is ready for pick up”. I’m thinking to myself, “Huh, how could this be, nobody ever called me!”.

You see, I’m having an issue with the jacks. I think I touched on it in an earlier post but I’ll recap. Every time I’d leave a campground, I’d pull up the jacks and get a reading on the jack display that stated, ‘success’. All systems good, ready to go. So I’d pull out and drive down the road a few miles and then my ‘jacks down’ light would come on and the jack display would start beeping. I’d look for an exit, find a gas station or parking lot to pull into, and put the jacks back down. When I’d raise them again and head down the road, things went back to normal, it seemed to resolve the issue. Fun, fun.

So when I got on the phone with the service department their comment was, “We put the jacks up and down four times with no issues”. Really, you did?? Of course you did, but you didn’t call me to find out what was wrong!! So I explained the scenario. A week later, another phone call from them. It seems they contacted the jack manufacturers and they claim it sounds like the pump. However, they’re not convinced and are going to have their master technician check it out. It may simply be a relay switch. The later being much cheaper. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Ummm, no jacks, you're not down!

I’m pretty hypersensitive about getting PERL checked out regularly. I’ve heard many times from many RV’ers that your first line of defense is maintenance. Do routine maintenance and at the first onset of a problem get it checked out ASAP. While unpredictable things are bound to happen, most things can be prevented or at least corrected if nipped in the bud fairly early on. So I’m sitting over here being patient but persistent. I’m not creating problems but I’m not going to be pacified if in my gut I feel something is not right. With that said, I’m hoping PERL will be ready to roll out when I need her. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So, dear reader, if you’re out there and have any comments or questions, don’t be afraid to post them. All bloggers love to know there’s someone out there actually benefiting from and enjoying all the tip tapping they do on the keyboards. You guys are getting better but the more love the better :-)! In fact, let’s play a game. Post in the comments where you think we’re going to be parking it for the summer. I’m curious how many of have guessed it already.

I’m hoping the next time I post out, I’ll have some firm plans for our Maine trip. I think we’re going to focus on the southern coast and won’t go as far up as Acadia State Park. I’ll hit that later. If any of you have suggestions for cool places to check out or fabulous places to eat lobster, I’m all ears. I remember one year, while in Rhode Island, I found this really cheap lobster place. It was two huge lobsters and all the fixings for less than $20. I was in heaven.
